Europe stunned the U.S. in the morning foursomes (alternate shot) to grab an early 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 lead at the Solheim Cup. In the opening match, Europe was dormie-2 but Kerr and Thompson won the last two holes including a 15ft birdie putt by Kerr on hole 18 to halve the match. In the last match, the United States was two up after 12 holes but Icher and Matthew won three of the next four holes and won by 1 hole. Lewis and Pillar had a chance to tie the match but Lewis ran her first putt 8 ft past the hole and Pillar missed the par putt.
In the afternoon fourball (best ball) matches, the U.S won all four matches for a 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 total lead. It is always interesting to look at the actual scores shot by each team rather than just the match play score. Lincicome and Lang won their match 3&2. They were 10 under par when the match finished.
