Bryson DeChambeau won his first PGA tour event yesterday at the John Deer Classic in Silvis, Illinois. He caught the leaders with a final round 65 capped off by birdies on 17 and 18. The victory not only gave him a 2 year exemption on the PGA tour but also gained him the last spot into The Open at Royal Birkdale this upcoming week.
Bryson won the 2015 U.S. Amateur and NCAA Individual Championship and became only the fifth to win both the NCAA and U.S. Amateur titles in the same year, joining Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, and Ryan Moore.
His victory will likely begin the conversation again about his unique swing and golf club configuration. We will spend more time tomorrow talking about the physics behind his golf clubs and how this might help the average golfer.
This is also the Open week at Royal Birkdale. There are many story lines coming into this week and we will discuss things to look for.
