The final Major of the year concluded on Sunday with a great performance by Justin Thomas. After a disappointing showing in The Open punctuated by a poor second round and MC, he played beautifully and shot in the 60s his last three rounds. The four Major Champions for 2017 are Sergio Garcia (The Masters), Brooks Koepka (U.S. Open), Jordan Spieth (The Open), and Justin Thomas (PGA).
It is always interesting to look at the winner’s overall records in the Majors and determine who had the best season. Listed below are the Major Championship records of each Major winner. Only two players made the cut in all four majors (Koepka, Spieth). If we then analyze their records, Brooks Koepka was in the top 16 in all four majors and was more consistent than Spieth. This is the first year that Koepka has played well in the Majors and it looks like he is now comfortable with the pressure and will likely be a favorite in future championships.
Sergio Garcia: 1st (Masters), T21 (U.S. Open), T37 (British Open), MC (PGA)
Brooks Koepka: T11 (Masters), 1st (U.S. Open), T6 (British Open), T16 (PGA)
Jordan Spieth: T11 (Masters), T35(U.S. Open), 1st (British Open), T28 (PGA)
Justin Thomas: T22 (Masters), T9 (U.S. Open), MC (Open), 1st (PGA)
